Calculation of freight on container liner

(1) Structure of freight in container transportation

The calculation principle of freight in container liner transportation is similar to that in general cargo liner transportation, but it also has its own characteristics. For example, some terms of loading and unloading charges in charter transportation have also been introduced into container liner transportation.

(2) Billing method

That is, the basic freight and additional freight are specified in the rate table, and the rate and calculation method are given.

There are two basic freight calculation methods in container liner transportation:

(1) Using the same method to calculate the basic freight of general cargo liner transportation, the specific route according to the grade of cargo and different billing standards to calculate the basic freight.

(2) For the specific route according to the cargo class and container type, size of the package rate, or only according to the container type, size of the package rate, without considering the type and class of goods to calculate the basic freight.

Packing rate refers to the rate of freight charged per unit of container.

Package rate is also called "flat rate (FAK)". When the container rate is used to calculate the basic freight of containers, it is only necessary to multiply the rate by the number of containers according to the specific route, cargo grade, container type and size.

The surcharges in container liner shipping are similar to those in general liner shipping.

(3) Demurrage charges

Demurrage charges in container liner transportation refer to the charges charged by the carrier to the owner of the container in container transportation, which is also called demurrage charges in practice, when the owner of the container does not pick up the goods and return the container to the designated container yard or container freight station within the stipulated free storage practice. Demurrage is calculated on a daily basis.
